Description

This popular variety is prized for its showy display of ruffled pink blooms. Camellia x williamsii 'Debbie' is particularly free-flowering, producing an abundant display in late spring. This tough and reliable cultivar copes well with a cold north-facing position; its flowers are rarely being spoiled by late frosts. The glossy, dark foliage is evergreen, delivering colour and structure to the garden throughout the year. Over time, this Camellia will form a large, magnificent shrub. A superb specimen plant for a prominent garden position on acid soil. Height and spread: 4m (13’).

Culinary note: The flowers can be used as garnishes but are also dried and then cooked in Asian cuisine. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.
More Info

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
