Description

Accent your spring garden with the striking and unusual pink-streaked double flowers of Camellia japonica 'Bonomiana’. Blooming from mid to late spring, you can enjoy a long season of interest as this reliable hardy shrub unfurls bloom after bloom, each with their own unique markings for a varied and eye-catching display. Throughout the rest of the year, this ornamental shrub is densely cloaked with glossy, rich green foliage, providing an attractive, low maintenance screen as well as bringing structure and height to the garden. Thrives in sun or partial shade, a great choice for showing off in the front garden. Height: 3m (10’). Spread: 2m (2’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and soil based compost and position in dappled shade.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
