Description

Enjoy flamboyant container displays from July right through to October with two of our top-performing begonias. The gently tumbling stems of 'Pendula Mixed’ are ideal for hanging baskets, while 'Non-Stop Mixed' is perfect for pots, baskets, borders and bedding schemes alike. Thriving even in shady spots, this vibrant and versatile duo is low-maintenance but high-impact, brightening up patios, courtyards or any corner of the garden. The colourful edible petals can be added to salads or sandwiches for a lemony flavour and crisp texture.

Begonia Tubers Duo contains:

  • Begonia 'Non-Stop Mixed' (10 tubers) – fully double flowers in a boisterous array of shades that jostle for attention in containers, beds and borders. With weather resistant blooms, these long-lasting tuberous begonias will keep flowering well into autumn – long after most summer-flowering plants have faded. Height and spread: 30cm (12").
  • Begonia 'Pendula Mixed’ (10 tubers) – spectacular trailing begonias with pendulous stems smothered in enormous double flowers all summer and into autumn. Begonia 'Pendula Mixed' will fill hanging baskets, and containers with flamboyant colour for a show-stopping display. Height and spread: 30cm (12").

How to Grow
Tubers are ideal for containers, making a larger plant in the first year than plug plants or growing from seed. From February, start begonia tubers off in well-drained, moist compost in a warm, frost-free position in bright light. When planting begonia tubers, position them just below the compost surface with the indented side facing upwards. When begonia plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before planting them in their final positions. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from strong winds.
More Info
Feed and water plants frequently throughout the growing season taking care not to over-water, as this will cause new flower buds to drop. Deadhead faded blooms regularly to encourage more vibrant begonia flowers to be produced and to extend the flowering period. At the end of the growing season the leaves and stems will yellow and fall off naturally. Reduce watering to prevent begonia plants from rotting at this stage. When the stems have all dropped away, dig out the tubers. Clean and dry them before storing them away in peat or sand at 7-15°C (45-60°F) until they can be replanted next February.
