Description
Azaleas are ideal for adding late spring impact to your gardens. A dwarf, evergreen variety, Azalea ‘Dwarf Lilac’ is certain to bring a desirable splash of colour at the time when the spring flowering bulbs are fading away. Its compact growth habit means that a dense, rounded mass of deep green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for the masses of beautiful lilac flowers. Ideal for planting in patio containers as well as making an excellent border shrub. Height and spread: 70cm (28").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 9cm potted azalea plant (51900)

How to Grow
Grow Azaleas in moist, well drained, acid soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted organic matter. Choose a position in semi or dappled shade with shelter from cold drying winds. Many azaleas can cope with a sunny position provided that the soil remains reliably moist. Where soil conditions are alkaline, Azalea plants are best grown in patio containers, using a mix of ericaceous compost and a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Azaleas are surface rooting so it is important to avoid planting them too deeply.
More Info
Water Azalea plants regularly throughout the growing season. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Azaleas in spring with a slow release fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds. Border grown Azaleas will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their shallow roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound the mulch too close to the stem as this may cause it to rot.
