Description
This long lived perennial thrives in shady spots on boggy soils where many plants refuse to grow. Elegant plumes of red astilbe flowers rise above handsome, finely cut foliage in summer. Astilbe makes a lovely feature in a bog garden or by a shaded waters edge, where it will attract a wide range of butterflies to its striking blooms. Height: 70cm (28"). Spread: 50cm (20"). Planting depth: Zone 1 in boggy soil.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 1 litre potted astilbe plant (78093)

How to Grow
Plant astilbes in sun or dappled shade. Astilbe plants require rich fertile soil that remains permanently moist, even in the height of summer. A boggy soil next to a pond or stream is ideal. On drier soils, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or compost prior to planting and choose a shaded position.
More Info
Water regularly during hot, dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. Divide over-crowded clumps of astilbe in spring when necessary, to increase their longevity. Apply a mulch around the base of the plant in spring to conserve moisture in the soil.
