Description

Canna generalis 'Cannova Rose' is a striking perennial that commands attention with its elegant, upright growth and enchanting soft rose-pink flowers. This cultivar, part of the esteemed Cannova series, is celebrated for its ability to infuse vibrant color and architectural interest into summer gardens and container displays. With its lush green foliage providing a tropical backdrop, 'Cannova Rose' not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of borders but also ensures a prolonged season of visual delight, blooming from mid-summer through early autumn.

The plant exhibits a robust, clump-forming habit, reaching an impressive height of 120 cm (approximately 4 feet) and spreading to about 60 cm (2 feet). Its large, glossy leaves contribute to a lush, verdant appearance, reminiscent of a tropical paradise. The delicate rose-pink blooms, perched gracefully on tall stalks, create a stunning contrast against the rich foliage, attracting the attention of bees and other pollinators. This perennial thrives in full sun, requiring fertile, moist, and well-drained soil to flourish, making it an ideal choice for those looking to create a vibrant summer landscape.

While 'Cannova Rose' is half-hardy in the UK, it is essential to take precautions during colder months. The top growth will die back after frost, necessitating the lifting of rhizomes or providing insulation with deep mulch for those who wish to leave them in situ. Regular watering is crucial, particularly during dry spells, especially for container-grown specimens. To maintain its beauty and encourage continuous blooming, deadheading spent flowers is recommended. This versatile plant is perfect for tropical-themed borders, bedding displays, and containers, ensuring that your garden remains a captivating oasis throughout the warmer months.

How to Grow
Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
