Description Sowing Delivery Reviews
A giant among annuals. Give them plenty of room and you will be rewarded with plants up to 3m (10ft) tall with huge yellow flowers often 30cm(12in) in diameter. Useful to grow against an unsightly shed or fence. Birds love the seeds so grow a few plants close to the house and watch them feed in the autumn. Flowers summer. Height 8-10ft.

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Try toasting the seed kernels for a healthy snack. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing sunflowers with chives to deter aphids.

Sowing Months Flowering Months
Sow early spring to early summer outdoors where they are to flower. Prepare the ground well and rake to a fine tilth before sowing. Sow 12mm (0.5in) deep in rows 45cm (18in) apart. For really giant sunflowers, sow them indoors in late winter/early spring, individually in 7.5cm (3in) pots at a temperature of 15-18C (60-65F). Grow on in good light conditions, harden off and plant out when all risk of frost has passed.

They prefer a sunny open site but will grow in most sites and soils.

Russian Giant 2014-10-08

Impressively tall but they have a tendency to fall over in the wind and rain. Emergency staking was required in all 3 sites these were planted.

T&M replied on 2014-08-12: Thank you for your review, should you have any further issues please get in touch via email and we will be more than happy to assist you further.

Easy & Fast Growing 2014-04-17

Very easy and fast germination, anyone can grow these. You will need to stake them as they start to grow tall to protect them from the winds, they are as described and as shown in the images. An excellent hardy flower, grew well in our heavy soil garden.

Giant Indeed 2012-08-31

Planted these seeds in the spring and although they were not particularly well cared for initially due to space saving, these have now thrived in their final planting area and are attracting masses of bees. Very easy to grow and a stunning addition to the garden.

Amanda Davies 22/04/2012 Neyland, Pembrokeshire. Love the big seeds which make them easy for children or people with restricted movement to handle. Love that after only 5 days a little bud emerges from the soil. i grew the seeds in root trainer cells at the end of March, and I am now potting on and hardening off my young plants. Most are 6-8 inches tall already. Where I live we get the wild west wind straight off the sea, but luckly these plants with a bit of stalking manage brilliantly. Last year they were over 6ft high and we didn't even have a proper summer. A truly hardy annual. Hoping to grow a giant one this year.
