Description

Including three fantastic varieties, these popular hardy perennials deserve a prime spot in the garden. Eyecatching tubular flowers appear in summer above a flush of glossy, semi-evergreen foliage. The long-lasting blooms of Penstemon 'Ice Cream Collection' continue well into autumn, long after other plants have run out of steam. Undemanding and easy to grow, Penstemons tolerate almost any position in the garden, regardless of rain or drought, and even resist slug damage. What more could you ask of a plant? Height: 80cm (31"). Spread: 45cm (18").

  • Collection comprises:
  • Penstemon 'Blackberry' - Luxurious, rich purple, tubular blooms.
  • Penstemon 'Sweet Cherry' The bright red, bell-shaped flowers are beautifully accented with pure white throats.
  • Penstemon 'Strawberries & Cream' - White trumpet shaped flowers with delicately speckled pink throats.

How to Grow
Pot up penstemon plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until plants are well grown. Pinch out the growing tips while plants are still small to encourage bushier growth. When plants are well developed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors into borders and patio containers. Grow penstemon in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, well drained soil. Penstemons can tolerate dry soils once established but dislike heavy soils that are particularly cold and wet in winter. Improve heavy soils by adding plenty of coarse grit prior to planting.
More Info
Feed and water penstemons regularly until they are fully established. Once established they are reasonably tolerant of drought and will require little maintenance. Deadhead faded penstemon flowers to maintain the plant's vigour and encourage further blooms to be produced. In cold areas apply a dry mulch of bark chips of straw around the crown of each plant in autumn. Leave the old foliage intact until spring to protect plants during winter.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
