Description

This very low-growing hardy geranium is the perfect choice for placing right on those awkward border edges that can end up dry and bare. Drought-tolerant once established, Geranium sanguineum is also a useful candidate for rockeries, stony crevices, dry banks or dry spots beneath shrubs and roses.

It forms spreading mounds of attractive, finely divided, dark green leaves which are slightly shiny. From May to June, it is smothered in saucer-shaped, vivid magenta flowers, 3-4cm across, which are streaked with fine veins. It's fabulous in an informal cottage-style garden where it associates especially well with silver foliage and makes a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens too, as the flowers attract beneficial pollinators. Height: 20cm (8in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant hardy geraniums in any well drained soil, in sun or shade. Water well to settle the soil around the roots.

For more information and guidance check out our Gardening Guides.

More Info
Water regularly until fully established. Remove old foliage and faded flower stems throughout the growing season to promote continuous fresh growth. In autumn, cut the foliage back completely. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant in spring. Lift and divide hardy geranium plants every third year to maintain their vigour.
