Description

New for 2023! This stunning Clematis has been bred by Guernsey Clematis, one of the largest specialist Clematis nurseries in the world. Due to be launched at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show, it is bound to attract plenty of attention.

Clematis ‘Tumaini™’ is a sure winner for small gardens, courtyards and patios as well as larger areas. Free-flowering over a long period but usefully compact, it makes the very best use of space. Clematis ‘Tumaini™’ bears an abundance of large flowers, 10-12cm in diameter, with light violet petals blushed with a dark pink bar. The flowering period is generous – the first blooms emerge in April, reaching a crescendo in May and June, followed by a smaller, second flush in September. ‘Tumaini™’ makes a fabulous, flower-packed climber for container planting. It also works equally well at the front of a mixed border, supported on an obelisk or wigwam. Height: 90-120cm (35-47in). Spread: 75cm (30in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.
More Info
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. Pruning should be undertaken in spring before active growth begins. In February, cut back all of the previous year’s stems to a pair of healthy buds at around 15cm above ground level. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
