Rarely available to buy, Carex acuta is a native perennial grass found in rivers, streams and lakes throughout the British Isles. The Slender Tufted Sedge forms clumps of tall stems that provide excellent cover for wildlife. The brown blooms appear from July to August above the green, grassy foliage. Perfect for planting in boggy or wet soil in wildlife gardens, ponds and streams. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 50cm (20"). Planting depth: Zone 1 & 2 to 15cm (6") below water level.

How to Grow

Plant Carex acuta into any reliably moist or boggy soil, or submerged in the shallow margins of ponds to a maximum depth of 15cm (6"). Choose a position in sun or partial shade.

Carex are very easy to maintain. Trim away the foliage that has died back in autumn to maintain a tidy appearance. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Sedge in Spring.
