Description

Astrantia ‘Florence’ is a tasteful and elegant hardy perennial producing a froth of delicate soft pink blooms from June to September, rising above a clump of attractive deeply divided, palm-shaped foliage. The pincushion flowers, which are surrounded by an attractive crown of pale pink bracts, are loved by pollinators and make great cut flowers. Happy in full sun to almost full shade, Astrantia ‘Florence’ makes a beautiful and timeless addition to cottage gardens, mixed borders or woodland-style planting. Height: 80cm (32in). Spread: 50cm (20in).

How to Grow

Astrantias are happiest in dappled shade (but tolerate almost full shade to full sun) in moist but well-drained, humus rich soil. Little maintenance is required – the plant can be cut back after the flowers have faded to tidy and encourage a fresh flush of leaf growth, or the seed heads left standing until winter to provide continued interest.
