Liven up your summer bedding displays with this unusual annual. Silene colorata 'Pink Pirouette' boasts pretty, pale pink flowers with spoon-shaped petals. Flowers are borne in profusion throughout summer, attracting pollinating insects to its rich nectar. With a spreading, almost trailing habit, this free flowering Campion makes an excellent alternative to the usual summer bedding, brightening up containers, baskets and window boxes, or forming colourful ground cover in beds and borders. Height: 20cm (8"). Spread: 60cm (24").

1 packet (15 silene seeds) (79663)

Sow Silene colorata seed from March to May at a depth of 2mm in a good, free-draining, damp, seed or multipurpose compost. Cover with a light sprinkling of vermiculite. Place container in a propagator or seal inside a plastic bag and place at a temperature of 15-20C (59-68F) until after germination which can take 7-14 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into trays or 7.5cm (3") pots and grow them on in cooler conditions. When plants are well grown, and all risk of frost pas passed, gradually acclimatize them to outdoor conditions over 7 – 10 days before planting out in any moist, well drained soil in sun or semi shade at a distance of 30cm (12") apart.

Alternatively direct sow outdoors from April to May where plants are to flower. Sow at a depth of 3mm, in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin to 20cm (8") apart.
