Description

Enjoy your own Elderberry jam, wine, champagne and cordials with this heavily fruiting Sambucus. This Austrian selection is favoured by commercial orchards for its heavy crops of large, black-purple berries. As well as providing an abundance of fruit, Sambucus nigra ‘Haschberg’ is great for wildlife. In May/June, fragrant umbels of white flowers attract beneficial pollinators to the fruit garden and can be used to make elderflower cordial and champagne. The berries that follow in August/September make excellent jams, desserts and wines, as well as being enjoyed by the birds.

Sambucus nigra ‘Haschberg’ is a fast-growing shrub with strong, upright stems clothed in green leaves. It can be planted as a single specimen or incorporated into an ‘edible hedgerow’ along with species such as wild cherry, blackthorn and crab apple. Self-fertile, resilient and disease-free, it copes with most soils including heavy clay. Height: 4m (13ft). Spread: 2m (6.5ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
