Description
Through sales generated from the National Trust seeds, a minimum of £7,500 will be given to the National Trust to help look after nature, beauty and history for everyone, forever.

A beautiful border plant which then goes on to produce tasty edible seeds which can be easily harvested from attractive seedheads. Poppy 'Album' is unique - whereas most poppies have black seed, this variety has superior-tasting white seeds which are a fantastic addition to cakes or as a bread topper. The graceful flowers are pale pink with mauve blotches in the centre, normally produced throughout summer on tall, upright stems. Any seeds you don’t use can be scattered in borders, allowing this marvellous hardy annual plant to grow back the following year. Height: 90cm (36"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Sowing
Direct sow Poppy seeds outdoors where they are to grow in spring or autumn. Choose a position in full sun on fertile, well drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sow seeds thinly, just below the soil surface. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 7 - 14 days. When Poppy seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 30cm (12") apart.
More Info
Feed and water poppy plants frequently throughout the summer. Opium Poppies self seed freely. Deadhead faded poppy flowers if seedlings are not required. Caution: harmful if eaten.

Culinary note: All poppies are poisonous. However, the seeds produced by somniferum and paeoniflorum poppies only can be eaten. Typically, they are used in bakery recipes. For more details about edible flowers click here.
