Description

Whereas other varieties of Physocarpus are grown primarily for their foliage, Physocarpus ‘Tiny Wine’ boasts both beautiful dark foliage and showy flowers, plus its petite size makes it especially suited to smaller garden borders, courtyards and container growing. ‘Tiny Wine’ forms a dwarf, very bushy shrub with smaller foliage than other types, creating a fine-textured look. The leaves emerge bronze-maroon, deepening to rich burgundy as the summer progresses. In late spring, the branches are festooned all along their length with clusters of showy, pinky-white flowers that stand out against the dark foliage background. A robust, reliable shrub for providing a long season of colour and structure in borders and containers. Attractive to pollinators. Height and spread: 1m (39in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Physocarpus in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Physocarpus plants prefer an acid to neutral soil, but will tolerate more alkaline soils, although may they may become chlorotic in very chalky areas. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting.
More Info

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Physocarpus plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seedheads are required for late season interest.

Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates fairly hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
