Description
This small and compact variety of Ninebark is absolutely ideal for planting in garden borders or in pots on a patio. Its lush, deep burgundy foliage initially emerges as an orange red colour and slowly deepens its hue as it matures, giving it a constantly changing foliage, adding a great deal of interest wherever it is planted! Clusters of white flowers appear in summer to give a contrast to the dark leaves and later fruit will develop too. Physocarpus opulifolius 'Little Angel' is an excellent choice as it is easy to keep, giving you a great deal of reward for very little effort! Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Physocarpus in a fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Physocarpus plants prefer an acid to neutral soil, but will tolerate more alkaline soils, although may they may become chlorotic in very chalky areas. Incorporate organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting.
More Info

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Physocarpus plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. After flowering, cut back the flowered shoots to a healthy pair of buds, unless seedheads are required for late season interest.

Physocarpus opulifolius tolerates fairly hard pruning and may be cut back by half every few years to maintain a smaller size. On mature plants cut back about one quarter to one fifth of the oldest shoots to their base, to promote strong new growth.
