Description

The perfect choice for a pot of or smaller border space, dwarf Phormium ‘Special Red’ brings year round colour and structure to a planting space whilst remaining neat and compact. The deep burgundy-red leaves of this New Zealand Flax form an architectural shape which contrasts well with mixed plantings, it also stays evergreen so you can enjoy its warming tones and Mediterranean appeal even through the winter months. Resilient and hardy, a great choice for coastal or gravel gardens as well as for incorporating into a traditional mixed flower border or patio container. Height: 50cm (20”). Spread: 50cm (20”).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Phormium on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a protected position in full sun. Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil - so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
More Info
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Phormium need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip much below-5C (23F). Where winters are particularly cold and wet, it may be preferable to grow Phormiums in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.
