It’s easy to see why Eriophorum angustifolium is known as the Common Cotton Grass. Fluffy white flower heads look like cotton wool balls floating among clumps of grassy foliage. This appealing British native is often seen on boggy, acidic peatlands and makes a lovely marginal aquatic. Hardy and evergreen, this perennial is an excellent choice for boggy ericaceous soils and providing valuable cover for wildlife at the edges of ponds. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 100cm (39"). Planting depth: Zones 1, 2 & 3 to 20cm (8") below water level.

How to Grow

Grow Eriophorum in boggy acid soil and the shallow margins of ponds with the crown planted to a depth of up to 20cm (8") below water level. Choose a position in full sun.

More Info

Cotton Grass requires virtually no maintenance. Cut back olf foliage in autumn to just above the water surface.
