Description
  • One of the quickest beans to mature

Aptly named dwarf French Bean 'Speedy' is one of the earliest and quickest beans to produce pods to pick. This productive variety produces good yields of fleshy, mid-green pods, approximately 14cm (6") long from late July onwards that have an excellent flavour. Make several sowings from May through July for regular pickings right through to the first frost. Good for container growing. Height: 45cm (18"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Please note: Delivery is subject to plant size, and adverse growing conditions during production may delay despatch schedules.

Companion planting: Try growing French beans with Nasturtiums to draw aphids away from your crop.

How to Grow

T&M's easy starter plants are delivered ready for planting at the correct time so that you can enjoy bigger, earlier and tastier vegetables. Gradually acclimatise dwarf French beans to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting outdoors.

Grow dwarf bean plants in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi shade. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted garden compost to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Avoid using products that are high in nitrogen such as farmyard manure, as this may promote lush foliage instead of beans. Plant French beans at a distance of 22cm (9") apart in staggered rows for the highest yields. Water the plants in well after planting.

More Info
Cover young French bean plants with fleece to protect them from late frosts. Water dwarf beans regularly, particularly as the flowers develop, and provide a liquid feed every 14 days during mid-summer. Dwarf French Beans can be harvested from July to September. Pick the beans regularly and a little on the young side to ensure top quality and prolonged cropping.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
