Specially bred as a pot Carnation, Dianthus 'Odessa Red' won’t disappoint! These compact plants bear deep crimson flowers in such profusion that the silvery green foliage virtually disappears beneath a mass of blooms. This free flowering evergreen perennial is perfectly proportioned for patio containers and table top pots, or planting in the front of borders and alpine gardens. Wherever you grow it, this neat little Dianthus will attract plenty of pollinating insects. Although the stems are shorter than some cultivars, they still make a good cut flower for a pretty posy. Height and spread: 30cm (12").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Most dianthus have a pleasant spicy, floral, clove-like taste, especially the more fragrant varieties, and are ideal for decorating or adding to cakes. They'll also make a colourful garnish to soups, salads and the punch bowl. The petals will add zest to ice cream, sorbets, salads, fruit salad, dessert sauces, seafood and stir-fries. How to Grow

Plant Pinks outdoors in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in full sun.

Feed and water regularly until dianthus plants are fully established. Deadhead faded dianthus flowers frequently to encourage more blooms to be produced.
