Description

Growing your own Saffron is easier than you might think. The golden stigma of the Saffron Crocus can be harvested and dried, before adding to your favourite rice dishes to provide colour and flavour.

Crocus sativus subsp. cartwrightianus 'Albus' is the white flowered variety of Saffron Crocus with gleaming blooms that appear in autumn when much of the garden has faded. Plant this hardy bulb through rockeries and gravel gardens or in containers of free-draining, gritty soil. For the best effect, plant them in large numbers or mingle them with Crocus sativus, its purple-flowered sibling. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").

How to Grow
Grow crocus in any well drained garden soil in sun or semi shade. Spring flowering crocus bulbs should be planted during the autumn, in large clumps at a depth of 10cm (4") and at a distance of 7cm (3") apart. Alternatively grow them in containers or naturalised in grass.
More Info
Allow the strap like foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Avoid mowing areas of grass where crocus are naturalised until they have completely died back.
