Description
Grown for its fabulous coloured foliage, the smoke bush is a well known sight in UK gardens. Cotinus coggygria is a large, deciduous shrub with deep purple leaves that turn to vibrant hues of red and orange in autumn. In summer the frothy plumes of cream flowers surround the plant with a soft, smoky appearance. Hardy, and easy to grow, the smoke bush is often seen in cottage gardens, and its cut stems make a great addition to flower arrangements. Height and spread: 5m (16’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow the Smoke Bush in a moderately fertile, well drained soil in sun or partial shade, plants are generally unfussy and a low maintenance choice of shrub for the garden.
More Info
Your Smoke Bush will require little pruning other than to maintain its shape, and to remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth. Alternatively, to produce larger, showier foliage, you can cut back stems during spring to within 2 or 3 buds of the base. After pruning, mulch the base of your plants with a few inches of well-rotted compost or manure.
