  • Harvest from September to December

A colourful collection of tasty French Beans! Climbing Bean Mixed combines 3 of the best varieties from the latest breeding programmes, each with different flower and pod colours. These high yielding varieties produce excellent crops of stringless, flavoursome, 25cm (10") pods which hold in prime condition for much longer than traditional varieties. An excellent choice for adding colour to the vegetable plot as well as on the plate. Height: 180cm (70"). Spread: 30cm (12").

Supplied as peat free plugs/9cm pots.

  • Collection comprises:
  • Climbing Bean 'Monte Cristo' - Tender, bright green pods with white seeds.
  • Climbing Bean 'Carminat' - Fleshy purple pods with beige seeds.
  • Climbing Bean 'Monte Gusto' - Waxy, pale yellow pods with brown seeds.

Companion planting: Try growing French beans with Nasturtiums to draw aphids away from your crop.

How to Grow

Gradually acclimatise plug plants to outdoor conditions over 7 – 10 days before planting French beans outdoors in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun with protection from strong winds.

Plant Climbing beans in rows that are 60cm (24") apart, or where space is limited, try growing climbing beans onto a wigwam structure. Climbing beans require support from garden canes, strings or netting which should be put in place at the time of planting.

More Info

When growing beans, hoe between plants often and water regularly. Provide a compost mulch around the base of bean plants to combat dry periods. For the best crops harvest beans regularly while the pods are still young.

Culinary note: Suitable for freezing. Caution: Cook climbing beans before eating to avoid discomfort.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
