Cactus Gymnocalycium mihanovichii f. variegata is quite a mouthful but it’s more easily remembered by its nickname of ‘Moon Cactus’ - a name it deserves due to its extraordinary, glowing colours. A native of desert habitats in Argentina, it lacks green chlorophyll, forming a luminous globe of orange, pink and yellow. The cactus is actually two cacti combined - it is grafted onto the thick base of another, chlorophyll-producing cactus, which provides it with the sustenance it needs to grow. These cacti remain small, reaching a maximum of 2 inches across. Height and spread: 5cm (2in).

Grow cacti in full light with some shelter from the hottest sun. An average temperature of 10- 23C (50-75F) is ideal. Many Cacti can tolerate lower temperatures down to a minimum of 5C (40F).
More Info Cactus plants are slow growing so patience is required. In summer, water cacti regularly with soft water or rain water. Allow the compost to dry out slightly between watering. Avoid leaving Cacti in standing water as this will cause them to rot. House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth. In winter, while the plant is dormant, gradually reduce watering and allow the compost to remain dry.
