Sowing
Direct sow Briza seeds outdoors where they are to grow from March to May in full sun, on any well-drained soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Sprinkle seeds thinly over the soil surface and lightly rake the soil to ensure the seed is just covered. Alternatively, sow seeds thinly at a depth of 6mm (1/2") in drills spaced 30cm (12") apart. Water the ground regularly, especially during dry periods. Germination usually takes 12-14 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 29cm (9") apart. Where an autumnn sowing is made in September or October, the seed will not germintae until the following spring.
More Info
Feed and water quaking grass plants regularly, particularly during hot, dry periods. To use Briza maxima in dried arrangements gather them when the heads have changed colour but before they start to break up, and hang them in bunches upside down in a cool, dry airy place.
