Description
Seductively dark, purple-brown foliage covers the red stems of Berberis thunbergii 'Chocolate Summer'. This handsome, deciduous shrub has a neat, upright habit that makes a fine choice as a low hedge or for creating striking colour contrasts in borders. From late spring, it produces tiny yellow flowers which are loved by pollinating insects. Small, orange-red berries follow the flowers, providing plenty of late summer interest. Hardy and resilient, this Barberry is easy to grow. Plant it in a sunny spot for the best foliage colour. Height: 120cm (48"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Plant Berberis in full sun or partial shade, on a reliably moist, well-drained soil. Barberry plants are extremely resilient and will grow on many different soil types, except waterlogged.
More Info
Berberis require little maintenance once established. Trim back the stems lightly after flowering, removing dead or damaged growth at the same time.
