How to Grow
Originating from the Andes mountains of Peru, but naturalised in Europe, this Opuntia cactus is grown for its cylindrical branching trunks with long pointed leaves and small pale yellow spines. Austrocylindropuntia subulata is a tree-like, fast-growing cactus. In the wild it can reach up to 4m (13m) and whilst it won't reach these heights indoors it can still form large and impressive sculptural specimens. This easy-care houseplant is perfect for beginners. Height: 76cm (30in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Grow in full light with some shelter from the hottest sun. An average temperature of 10- 23C (50-75F) is ideal. In summer, water with soft water or rain water. Allow the compost to dry out completely between watering. Avoid leaving in standing water or over-watering as this will cause it to rot. Feed regularly with Cactus fertiliser between March and September when in active growth. In winter, while the plant is dormant, reduce watering and allow the compost to remain dry.
