Description
Schizophragma integrifolium 'Windmills' is a hardy, deciduous, climbing shrub, for a sunny or part shaded position. This Chinese Climbing Hydrangea boasts a profusion of Hydrangea-like, creamy-white, lace cap flowers which are borne in loose clusters during June and July. The blooms are larger than its better known cousin Schizophragma hydrangeoides. The ovate, toothed, rich green leaves cover the woody stems, creating a fabulous backdrop for the elegant blooms. Although slow growing initially, once established it will produce vigorous growth, scaling large walls with ease. This climbing shrub will need tying in to the supporting wall during the first few years but thereafter it will attach itself using self-clinging aerial roots. Height: 10m (32'). Spread: 6m (19').

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Schizophragma hydrangeoides ia any fertile, well drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position. Flowering will be at its best when planted in full sun, however this climbing shrub also makes an ideal candidate for a north facing spot, coping well with cooler conditions.
More Info
Feed and water Schizophragma regularly until fully established. During the first few years, this shrub will need tying in to its supporting wall. Thereafter it will produce self clinging aerial roots which will cling to the wall without much further assistance. After flowering, cut back stems to 2-4 buds from the previous years growth.
