Potentilla ‘Helen Jane’ is a classic cottage garden perennial bearing crimson-eyed, bright pink, strawberry-like blooms. The flowers float on long stems above low clumps of strawberry-like leaves. This low-growing perennial is ideal for the very edge of a border, its low mounds of foliage hugging the ground and softening the edge whilst producing a succession of flowers from June to August. Height: 40cm (16in). Spread: 50cm (20in).

Sow February to June or September to October. Place seed on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Seal container inside a polythene bag and place at 15-20C (59-68F) until after germination which can take 1 to 3 months. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
More Info Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3 inch) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30-45cm (12 to 18 inches) apart
Summer sowings can be overwintered for planting next spring.
Grow in any well drained soil in full sun. Feed and water regularly until young potentilla plants are fully established. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of potentilla in autumn or spring and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plants.
