A cottage garden favourite producing masses of pale pink flower spikes from midsummer right through to September. The pretty blooms rise above dense clumps of semi evergreen foliage, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. Persicaria bistorta ‘Superba’ has a vigorous spreading habit that makes superb ground cover. This knotweed is resilient and versatile. Except for very dry soils, it is tolerant of most conditions including boggy pond edges. Despite its vigour, this RHS AGM variety requires little maintenance and can be virtually left to its own devices. Give this hardy perennial plenty of space and let it spread freely for a lovely, natural effect. Height and spread: 90cm (36”).
Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Try the petals steeped in wine for an extra zing to your drink, or crystallise them for use as baking decoration or that extra sweet treat. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Persicaria bistorta prefers a fertile moist soil, but once established, will happily tolerate most conditions from boggy soils and pond margins to drier conditions. Plant Bistort in sun or semi shade.
More Info Once established, Persicaria is undemanding and requires little attention. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps in autumn or spring to maintain vigour and keep plants within their allotted space.
