Nom nom nom! Mr Greedy loves chomping on these crunchy cucamelons! Mr. Men™ Little Miss™ Cucamelon 'Melothria' is a fast-growing vine that produces cute miniature melons, also known as Little Mouse Watermelons. They’re a doddle to grow, drought tolerant, disease-free and will happily grow in pots with some support to climb up. From July until late September, they produce masses of grape-sized fruit that taste like mini cucumbers with a lemony zing. You can add them to salads but you’ll have to be quick as kids will love snacking on them straight off the vine. This tender perennial can be overwintered in frost-free conditions for early crops the following season. Height: 2.4m (8ft). Spread: 50cm (20").

Sowing

Sow seed on the surface of a free draining compost and cover with about 6mm (1/4 in) of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator at 21 -24C (70 – 75F) until germination, then reduce to 18C (65F). Germination up to 21 days.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm ( 3in) pots. Plant out , one plant per 25cm( 10in) container or 2 plants per growbag. Can also be planted outdoors in a sunny spot in late May/ June once all risk of frost has passed. Plants will need support to ramble. For maximum fruit production, stop main stems at 2.4m (8ft) and trim back all side shoots to 45cm (18"). This tender perennial can be overwintered in frost free conditions for early crops the following season.
