Description

A dwarf form of the towering Egyptian Papyrus that offers the same spectacular flower heads but only reaches 80cm high. Cyperus papyrus percamenthus offers architectural structure and a touch of exoticism to smaller garden ponds.

Strong, upright stems emerge from clumps of grassy foliage, exploding into sprays of shaggy green/brown flowerheads from July to September. Grow this tender aquatic in the shallow water of pond margins and provide winter protection. Plant height: 80cm (31in). Spread: 50cm (20in). Planting depth: 0-15cm (0-6cm)

Cyperus papyrus percamenthus Pond Kit (Dry Mix) comprises the following:

  • 1 x Cyperus papyrus percamenthus (bare roots)
  • 1 x pond basket
  • 1 x compost gravel pack

How to Grow

Grow in the shallow margins of a pond at a depth of 0-15cm in sun or light shade. This tender perennial is not winter hardy so remove the plant from the pond and overwinter in a greenhouse, cold frame or sheltered, frost free place.

Planting instructions: Empty the soil mix into the aquatic planting basket, and plant the bareroots so that the growing point sits just below the soil surface. Cover the surface of the soil with the gravel to hold the compost in place. It is recommended that the planting basket is gently submerged in a bucket of water to allow the compost to become completely soaked through. This will allow any loose compost to float to the surface before you position it in your pond.

More Info
Cyperus papyrus requires very little maintenance but must be protected from frost. Papyrus remains evergreen if grown in temperatures above 15C (59F). Trim back the old foliage to just above water level in autumn and overwinter in a frost free position.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
