Description

From March to April, the bare branches of Cercis chinensis ‘Shirobana’ are smothered in small, pea-like, white flowers, creating a stunning spring spectacle. After flowering, the glossy, dark green, heart-shaped leaves burst from their buds providing an attractive canopy throughout summer. In autumn, ‘Shirobana’ delivers another beautiful display, when the foliage transitions to butter-yellow before falling.

This rare Cercis forms a slow-growing, multi-season, small tree or shrub. It makes a lovely specimen for a patio container or in the open ground. Alternatively, place it in the border underplanted with spring bulbs where its handsome foliage provides a great backdrop for other plants through the summer.  Height and spread: 3m (9.8ft).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Grow Cercis chinensis in rich fertile, moist, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position in full sun. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Plant Eastern Redbud trees at the same soil level as they were growing at the nursery.
More Info

In the first few years after planting, water Cercis trees regularly, particularly during dry periods, until fully established. Cercis chinensis will naturally form a handsome, often multi-stemmed tree. No pruning is required except to remove any damaged or poorly placed branches in late winter if necessary.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
