Flowering Months

An improvement on other Achillea ptarmica varieties, ‘Noblessa’ flowers early and long, with masses of button-like flowers in a better double form. This rewarding perennial is nicely compact, with a mat of grey-green foliage from which emerge upright branching stems topped with a continuous flurry of snowy flowerheads from June to August. Plants will flower in their first year. Drought tolerant, this hardy perennial makes an excellent choice for dry gardens, informal borders and coastal sites, where its prolific blooms attract a host of beneficial insects. Achillea ‘Noblessa’ also makes a lovely addition to fresh and dried flower arrangements and has a long vase life. Height: 50cm (20in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

How to Grow

Plant out Achillea plants into any well-drained soil in full sun. Achillea plants dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting.

Once established, Yarrow is reasonably drought tolerant and requires little maintenance. In summer, stake the tall flower stems with garden canes to prevent them drooping and leave faded flower heads intact at the end of summer to enjoy an attractive autumn seed head display. When the first frosts blacken the stems, cut them down to ground level. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of yarrow in spring. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
