Description

Grown for their vibrant foliage and elegant silhouettes, Japanese Maples make a superb centrepiece for your garden for sheltered parts of the garden. This acer duo combines 2 particularly bold and attractive varieties. Their slow growing habits make them perfectly suited to growing in large containers on the patio adding colour and structure or as free standing specimens in borders. Height and spread: 4m (13").

Acer Bold Duo comprises:

  • Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum' (7cm potted plant) - A classic Japanese Maple producing gorgeous, purple-red foliage that colours to brilliant, fiery red in autumn.
  • Acer 'Orange Dream' (9cm potted plant) - The yellow and burnt-orange spring foliage of this acer contrasts beautifully with its small red blooms. The leaves colour to vibrant lime green throughout summer, before turning to orange and gold for a stunning autumn display.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
Pot up acer plants and grow them on in cool frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. When plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions before transplanting them in borders outdoors. Grow acer trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade, with shelter from strong winds which can scorch the finely cut leaves. Alternatively grow acers in large containers using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
More Info
Water regularly throughout the growing season until acer trees are well established. Protect plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
