Description

Our Strawberry Collection is the easy way to start your own strawberry patch! Choose from 2 popular varieties, or double up and grow them both for a longer picking season. There’s nothing quite like the flavour of sun-warmed strawberries, picked fresh from your own garden - but if you find yourself with fruits to spare, they make superb jams and preserves with a good old-fashioned flavour! Height: 20cm (8”). Spread: 30cm (12”).

Strawberry Collection comprises:

  • Strawberry ‘Cambridge Favourite’ - The enduring popularity of Strawberry 'Cambridge Favourite' has made it one of the most well-known and best-loved varieties available. This mid-season strawberry produces a bumper crop of juicy orange-red fruits with an excellent flavour and texture from June to July. This superb variety is reliable and tolerant of most situations.
  • Strawberry ‘Honeoye’ - The sweet and glossy fruits of this early summer variety are perfect for eating fresh picked or making flavoursome jams.

How to Grow
Plant strawberry plants in September or April in a sheltered, sunny position in well drained soil. Dig in a generous helping of well rotted manure. Plant one strawberry plant every 45cm (18") in rows spaced at 75cm (30") apart. Spread out their roots and place them in the soil at a level where the crown of the plant is just poking above the surface. Planting too deeply may cause them to rot! Alternatively grow strawberry plants in hanging baskets or in specially designed strawberry planters for the patio.
More Info
Water strawberries frequently throughout the growing season. Feed container grown plants every two weeks. Remove any runners that are produced in early summer as these will weaken the plants vigour. (They look like a long flexible stem with a baby plant at the very end). In May, place straw either side of each plant to protect developing fruit from slugs and raise fruits off of the ground. Place a net over the plants to protect your crop from greedy birds! After cropping remove netting and straw to allow better air flow around the crown of the plant. Mulch strawberry plants with well rotted manure every spring. Although strawberry plants will continue to fruit in successive years, the crop will become considerably reduced and it is advisable to completely replace plants every 3 years.
