Description

Parrotia persica 'Vanessa' is a stunning, multi-season tree. Selected for its more upright, pyramidal habit than the species, it is especially well-suited to small gardens. The Persian Ironwood is famed for its showstopping autumn foliage, its large, oval, deeply-veined leaves blazing crimson, orange and gold before leaf fall. In late winter, it also puts on a display of bright crimson spidery flowers that stand out beautifully on bare, arching branches. Spring sees bronze-tinted new foliage that matures to green during the summer. Mature trees display attractive, flaking bark. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 4-10m (13-32ft). Spread: 2-4m (6.5-13ft).

How to Grow
Gradually acclimatise Persian Ironwood trees to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant Parrotia persica in any moist, fertile, well-drained soil; it will grow happily in improved clay soils. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting. Choose a final position in full sun or partial shade.
More Info
Feed and water Parrotia trees regularly until fully established. Once established, Parrotia persica requires little attention except for the occasional removal of damaged, diseased and misplaced shoots in late winter or early spring. Exposed flower buds may be damaged by hard frosts.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
