Description

Japanese anemones are one of the most useful, resilient and high-performing of garden perennials. Flowering from August until October, they are invaluable for delivering months of late summer colour. Wide, saucer-shaped flowers with a central green button surrounded by golden yellow anthers are carried on tall, graceful stems above mounds of three-lobed leaves. Planted in groups, they produce an abundance of airy flowers that dance in the breeze, associating beautifully with other late flowerers such as Aster, Rudbeckia and Hydrangea. Their informal style suits cottage and wildlife gardens. They also make excellent cut flowers. Japanese anemones will grow in a wide variety of situations and soil types, are generally disease-free and extremely rabbit resistant.

Japanese Anemone Collection contains the following varieties:

  • Anemone x hybrida ‘Andrea Atkinson’ – A very vigorous hybrid that is an improvement on the well-known Anemone ‘Honorine Jobert’. Bears white, single to semi-double, 6cm flowers, sometimes tinged with pink and green. Height: 90 cm (35in). Spread: 75cm (30in).
  • Anemone ‘Bressingham Glow’ – Large, semi-double, deep rose-pink flowers. The petals are held loosely giving a charming windblown effect. Height: 90cm (35in). Spread: 75cm (30in).
  • Anemone ‘Praecox’ – Dark pink, single flowers. Earlier to flower and more compact than most other anemones. Height and spread: 60cm (24").
  • Anemone ‘Prinz Heinrich’ - Semi-double, dark pink/purple flowers that lighten as they age. Delightfully quilled and uneven petals give a ruffled appearance to the informal blooms. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 60cm (24").
  • Anemone ‘Serenade’ - Soft lavender pink, semi-double blooms. Height and Spread: 90cm (35").

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow

More Info
Cut back anemone flowers as they fade. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of anemones in spring or autumn. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
