Description

Iris ‘Cherry Garden’ is an early season, dwarf bearded iris that flaunts a sumptuous colour palette. In May, the silky buds emerge almost black, unfolding into inky purple-maroon before developing lighter wine-red tints set against a violet beard.

Irises are invaluable plants for the late spring and early summer border, their handsome sword-shaped leaves providing interest long after flowering and contrasting with the softer mounds of other herbaceous perennials. This short variety is perfect for running along the front of a border, delivering intense, jewel-like colour early in the season. Height and spread: 30cm (12”).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

How to Grow
A sunny position in well drained soil is ideal for growing iris. Bearded iris prefer an open position where the rhizomes can bake in the summer sun, without being shaded by other plants. These perennials require a very free draining soil, so amend heavy clay soils with plenty of grit and well rotted manure prior to planting. When planting Iris, ensure that the rhizome sits just at the soil surface as they are prone to rot if planted too deeply.
More Info
Overcrowded clumps of bearded Iris plants can be divided in late summer after flowering. Avoid mulching the rhizomes to prevent them from rotting over winter. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.

Thompson & Morgan strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3
