Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
This hardy, deciduous shrub is one of the last to break bud in spring - but well worth the wait! Exotic looking, sky blue flowers smother the dark three-lobed foliage in late summer and autumn, when many other blooms have faded. Hibiscus syriacus 'Azurri' will thrive on most soils but is particularly useful for tricky alkaline conditions. Rose Mallow requires little maintenance but enjoys a long, hot summer to produce the most stunning hibiscus flowers. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 2m (6',5").

Culinary note: The flowers can be infused to make a mildly citrus flavoured tea. The petals can be cut and added to fruit salads too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Feed and water hibiscus regularly until fully established. Apply a dry mulch such as bark chips to the base if the plant in autumn to protect from winter cold. Prune hibiscus in late spring, removing any stems that have died back or been damaged over winter. Hibiscus are often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that are slow to start into growth in spring - they may remain dormant until May!
Grow Hibiscus on rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.
