A unique hybrid of H. niger x H. foetidus which was previously considered impossible! The result is an elegant Hellebore with a particularly long flowering period - up to 7 months!. Hellebore x sahinii 'Winterbells' produces blooms from as early as September, and continues right through to April. The cream flowers are suffused green, with a pink flush to the reverse of each nodding, cup-shaped bloom. This clump-forming, semi-evergreen perennial boasts leathery, palmate foliage. How to Grow
Grow hellebores in neutral or alkaline soil, in dappled shade. Hellebores prefer a moist, humus rich, fertile soil that does not dry out in summer or sit waterlogged in winter. When growing hellebores on heavy clay or free draining gravel soils, add plenty of well rotted leaf mould or other organic matter to the soil prior to planting.
More Info
Mulch hellebore plants with well rotted manure or garden compost each spring. Hellebores resent disturbance after planting and may take some time to re-establish. However when clumps become overcrowded, lifting and dividing of hellebores should be undertaken immediately after flowering. Caution: Hellebore sap may irritate the skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
