The Kew Flowerhouse range of seeds from Thompson and Morgan has been specially created alongside the experts at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to bring the beauty of the garden inside. This outstanding range of handpicked seeds are perfect for enjoying in the garden or in the home. This range includes show-stopping flowers and elegant floral fillers ideal for a bouquet.

One of the largest flowered Geums, this vigorous perennial will happily flower in its first year when sown early. A product of T&M breeding, Geum ‘Blazing Sunset’ produces fully double, scarlet flowers held on long stems above neat rosettes of foliage. It provides a striking flash of hot colour unusually early in the summer. With long, sturdy stems, it’s great for cutting.

Sowing

Sow from February to July in good seed compost, just covering the seed with compost or Sow-lite (Vermiculite). Germination takes 30-90 days at 18-20C (65-70F). Sealing inside a polythene bag after sowing until they germinate is helpful.

When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings to boxes or 7.5cm (3 in) pots. When well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out 30cm (12in) apart in moist, well drained soil in sun or part shade.

How to Grow

Thin to 10cm (4") for 'baby leaf', to 20cm (8") for larger plants and to 30cm (12") for fully mature plants. Keep well-watered throughout the growing period to avoid bolting and lack of flavour. Ready to harvest in 30 days from sowing as 'baby leaf' or 45-70 days as semi-mature to full size heads.
