Description

Enjoy the heady fragrance and vibrant shades of this fabulous Freesia ‘River’ mixture, a colourful combination from the reliable and prolific River series. Freesias are loved for their long lasting flowers which throw out a beautiful perfume. Not just a great garden plant but also a classic cut flower, which has long been a florists’ favourite. In the garden, they love a hot, sunny spot with free-draining soil. Best enjoyed close up where their colours, fragrance and intricate detail can be admired, they’re great for filling pots on the patio and also look wonderful planted in swathes running through a border. These half-hardy bulbs provide plenty of punchy summer colour and have the potential to return again and again if offered winter protection. Height: 40cm (16”). Spread: 20cm (8”).

50 freesia corms (size 06/07) (KB4111)

How to Grow
In very mild areas, grow freesia corms outdoors in full sun on moist, free draining soil. In frost prone areas it is advisable to grow them in a greenhouse or as groups in patio containers that can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Use a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2. Plant freesia corms at a depth of 7cm and 10cm (4") apart.
More Info
Water freesias frequently throughout summer. As they begin die back in the autumn, reduce watering and remove the old foliage. Freesias that are grown in borders outdoors should be mulched with chipped bark to protect them from cold wet weather over winter. Move patio containers of corms to a frost free position during their dormant winter period until they burst back through the soil surface the following spring.
