Description

A most unusual red-flowered Larkspur, but certainly a real beauty, Delphinium nudicaule 'Laurin' is a dwarf variety which will liven up any patio container or mixed border scheme. Profuse red flowers sit in groups on slender stalks above a neat clump of green foliage. Perfect for growing in sunny borders or even better in a gravel garden, the eye-catching red flowers make this a stand out variety which will really pop when neighboured by blues and purples. Height: 40cm (16”). Spread: 30cm (12”).

1 packet (40 seeds) (26198)

Sowing

Sow Delphnium seeds from February to June on the surface of a good quality, free draining compost and lightly cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place the seed tray in a propagator at a temperature of 10-13C (50-55F) or seal inside a clear polythene bag and place in a dark position until the first seedlings show, which usually takes 1-3 months. Keep the compost damp but not wet.

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3") pots and grow Delphinium plants on in cooler conditions. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before planting outdoors. Plant Delphiniums at a distance of 45cm (18") apart on moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a sunny position that is sheltered from strong winds. Protect young delphiniums from slugs and snails.

More Info
Feed and water delphinium plants until they are fully established. Cut spikes of faded delphinium flowers back to a flowering side shoot to encourage a second flush of blooms to be produced. In autumn, cut the old foliage back to ground level.

Caution: All parts of delphinium are harmful if eaten and contact with the foliage may irritate the skin and eyes.
