A recent addition to the lauded Jowey series, Dahlia ‘Jowey Frambo’ bears exquisitely detailed pompoms in a fruity raspberry shade with a subtle hint of salmon. Each perfectly spherical flower is about 9cm in diameter. Pompom dahlias are more restrained than the flamboyant decorative types and their contrasting forms look fabulous when grown together. Like all dahlias, it’s great for cutting, with long, strong stems supporting the blooms.
Dahlias provide colour from July to October, just when the main flowering season of the garden begins to fade. They’re perfect for filling gaps, superb as cut flowers and easy to grow. Dot plant them in sunny borders or use them to add splashes of colour to patio pots. The tubers can be lifted after the first hard frosts of autumn and replanted the following spring for bigger, better displays each year.

Pot up Dahlia plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise dahlia plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting out in beds, borders and containers. Choose a position in full sun on any rich fertile, moist, well drained soil.
More Info Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Bedding dahlia are generally grown as annuals, however dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position if required. They can be potted up the following spring.
