Companion planting: Try growing courgettes with Calendula to attract pollinating insects which will in turn pollinate your courgette flowers.

1 Packet (8 Courgette Seeds) (TR00161)
Sow courgette seed indoors from April to Early June for transplanting later on, or direct sow outdoors from late May to June. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to improve its structure and fertility.
Indoors, sow seed at a depth of 2cm ( 3/4") in 7.5cm (3") pots of free-draining, seed sowing compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 20-25C (68-77F) until germination which takes 5-7 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination. Once germinated, grow courgettes on in cooler conditions until all risk of frost has passed and plants are large enough to be transplanted. Gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 - 10 days before planting in rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun at a distance of 90cm (36") apart. When growing courgettes, a thick mulch of organic matter spread around the plants will help to conserve moisture at the roots.
Alternatively direct sow courgettes outdoors at a depth of 2cm ( 3/4") and a distance of 90cm (36") apart. Sow 2 seeds per station and thin out the weakest seedling after germination.

Excellent produce for a first time vegetable grower 2012-08-14
At the start of spring this year (2012) I decided to start growing some vegetables, but as I only have a patio garden I bought some patio garden growers, which aren't particularly deep. I was concerned the courgettes would struggle with having confined space of a smallish square patio grower but I was pleasantly suprised! I have never grown vegetables before, so I followed th instructions very carefully, I started growing the seedlings inside and when it was warm enough I transferred them outside. They grew really well and managed to fight off the constant attack from slugs (I wanted to grow them organically and did!). They grew quickly and I have got a big yield from the only half of the packet. There are still loads growing and I've eaten about 6 already! Once they started growing they have taken little attention and care compared to some other vegetables. I'd highly recommend these courgette seeds, they are full of flavour and texture, as well as easy to grow!
