A golden smoke bush that will light up summer borders with its bright yellow, oval shaped foliage. Cotinus coggygria 'Golden Spirit' bears frothy plumes of subtle green flowers from midsummer, before the cool chill of autumn sets the foliage ablaze with vibrant shades of orange and red. Cotinus ‘Golden Spirit’ is easy to grow and holds an RHS AGM for its excellent garden performance. This hardy deciduous shrub makes a superb specimen plant or focal point for the back of a sunny border. Height and spread: 5m (16’).

How to Grow

Grow the Smoke Bush in a moderately fertile, well drained soil in sun or partial shade, plants are generally unfussy and a low maintenance choice of shrub for the garden.

Your Smoke Bush will require little pruning other than to maintain its shape, and to remove any dead, diseased or damaged growth. Alternatively, to produce larger, showier foliage, you can cut back stems during spring to within 2 or 3 buds of the base. After pruning, mulch the base of your plants with a few inches of well-rotted compost or manure.
