Description
A native, fully hardy, quite fast growing deciduous small tree. An abundance of golden yellow catkins during February and March followed by shiny, broad heart shaped green leaves that turn a lovely golden yellow in autumn. Grows best in fertile, well- drained soil, particularly chalky soils either in sun or part shade. Corylus avellana ‘Webbs Prize Cob’ produces large clusters of tasty nuts, classed as a cobnut, eaten green or allowed to fully ripen. Partially self fertile but best grown with any other hazelnut variety for reliable pollination. Height: 3m (10’). Spread: 3m (10’).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

1 x 12 litre potted corylus plant (KA3100)
2 x 12 litre potted corylus plants (TKA3101)

How to Grow
Grow Hazel plants in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun or semi-shade. Varieties with coloured foliage will be at thjeir best when grown in full sun. Corylus tolerates alkaline soils well, making it useful in chalky areas.
More Info
Feed and water Hazel regularly until fully established. Once established Corylus requires little maintenance. Remove any crossing, damaged or misplaced stems in late winter or early spring to maintain a pleasing shape and open habit.
