Powerfully and sweetly perfumed, the pretty satin flowers of Clematis 'Fragrant Oberon' are lemon-white with a hint of green, and look stunning set against the dark foliage of this evergreen clematis. This compact climber is perfect for growing in patio containers or tumbling over low walls. Although hardy to around -7ºC (20°F), this variety will appreciate a sheltered site with some winter protection. Height and spread: 1.5m (5'). Pruning Group: 1

Flowering Months
Feed and water frequently throughout the growing season. This variety of clematis flowers in early spring on the previous year's growth. Pruning should be undertaken in summer, after flowering. When pruning Clematis 'Fragrant Oberon', remove any damaged or dead stems entirely before cutting back the remaining stems to a pair of healthy buds to maintain the plant within its allotted space. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in order to protect the roots and conserve soil moisture.
Pot up clematis plants and grow them on until large enough to plant in their final positions. When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.

Bought it in 2014,put in a small contajner ,planted it out this year, only just noticed lots of very small flowers in bud.very small plant at moment, about 20 inches.

Tiny little flowers! 2013-07-30

I bought Fragrant Oberon last year, and planted it into a large container with a integrated trellis. It flowered earlier this year, and I only realised it because of the perfume. The flowers are very small and shy - stay hidden behind the leaves. I hope that it bulks out as a plant a bit more though, as it looks totally dwarfed by the 0.8m x 0.3m trellis!
